FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Washington, DC (September 19, 2013) -- Advance CLASS, Inc., commends the Commission on Long Term Care for its completion of a final report suggesting recommendations to address the crisis in long-term services and supports (LTSS). We recognize that the Commission was given a short period of time to make its recommendations, and we appreciate their hard work and dedication to find ways to strengthen LTSS for all people across the nation.
The Commission voted 9-6 in favor of releasing a final report as a broad agreement of its work on September 12, 2013, and made the pre-publication of the report available yesterday on its website. While a majority of Commissioners voted in favor of the final report, five Commissioners released alternative recommendations in a brief posted on the website of the Center for Medicare Advocacy, Inc. Their alternative recommendations included emphasis on the need to identify financing mechanisms for LTSS, including more emphasis on the LTSS needs for people with disabilities.
Advance CLASS shares the Commission’s vision of financing and implementing a comprehensive, high-quality system of care. We must ensure that aging seniors and people with disabilities can access services and supports in a manner that they choose. Advance CLASS continues to believe that an LTSS financing and delivery system should provide universal access and high quality services to individuals, and should promote personal planning throughout one’s working years. Advance CLASS will continue to work towards the goal of ensuring consumer choice and control of LTSS for all Americans in the years to come.
